It's very similar to poker. With every play in poker you don't take all the steps that you took to get where you currently are into account. You don't say, I've been beaten badly 10 times in a row so my luck should change this time. You don't take into account that you just had more chips than everyone at the table and now you have less chips than anyone at the table. You don't take into account how many chips you currently have in the pot, you look at what the total pot is and how many chips you currently have. Anything in the pot is already lost. In poker, you look at where you currently are and you make the best move based off your current situation.
It doesn't matter if you came from a poor family, it doesn't matter if you came from a rich family. It doesn't matter if you are stupid and it doesn't matter if your are smart. You can always become what you want to be. And in most cases the people who are where you want to be were most likely at some point in their life where you currently are.
If there are 10 steps to getting to where you want to be and you are currently at step 1 well you have 9 more steps to go. If you are currently at step 5 then you have 5 more steps to go. If you are at step 8 you have 2 more steps to go. It doesn't matter where you are starting. You can always get to where you need to go. If you are further behind than others then you will just have more work to do and it will take longer. Big deal. Other people are most likely further behind you in many things. We all start from different starting points in various things.
So we need to learn to start from where we currently are. We are never going to be at the right starting point and it's always going to be a challenge. We need to accept this and start with the first step.
