In the Information Age, knowledge moves at a very rapid speed, and so must you if you wish to thrive. While there are times when it is best to take things slow, when it comes to building your skills, you will want to move at a higher rate of speed. When you make the transition from your day job to being self employed, which we will talk about in future chapters, you can't afford to move like a turtle. You will need to be a fast learner so that you can use the skills you've developed to begin building wealth.
We recommend becoming skilled in your area of expertise within 12 months, and preferably six. This means you must train at a very high level, and it also means that you will need to use the best training tools available. Always remember that there are many different training programs available on the market, and some are better than others. Your goal is to get the best tools available. Just as you wouldn't want to compete in the field without using the best equipment, you should also not want to learn a skill without using the best resources available at your disposal.
While the costs involved with teaching yourself IA skills are much lower than what you would pay at a traditional institution of learning, it is best to spend as much as you can afford to ensure you get access to the best training materials available on the market. This should be considered your most important investment, for obvious reasons.
