Creativity
In most cases school does not teach creativity. How could it? Creativity isn't something that can be read about or proven with a degree. Creativity is something that is much deeper and much more real. Creativity is a deep, burning desire that needs to let itself be known. Creativity is usually closely associated with passion. People who are passionate about something and have a desire to complete an objective are almost always creative. This is because things we are passionate about are usually things we see our own way. They are things that are different and unique to us. And in order for us to express our passions they almost always come in a form or a shape that has never been seen before.
College, for the most part does not focus on passion or creativity. It focuses on procedure and set rules. The unfortunate problem with avoiding creativity is that creativity is one of the most profitable skills one could have both financially and emotionally.
Ethics
Ethics is something school wants nothing to do with. When is the last time school taught you whether or not it was right or wrong to burn somebody in business? When is the last time school even taught whether or not you should question the ethics of your employer? When is the last time school put you in the driver seat in whether or not you agree with the moral behind a certain action? Schools simply avoid these topics and leave it for your church to teach you. This does not seem right to me. Ethics should not be left for your church to teach you. Ethics is just as real and important as science or literature. Ethics plays a real role in everyday life and should NOT be avoided by our institutions of learning.
Money Management
Money is something schools want absolutely nothing to do with. While they may teach economics and financial type courses, when is the last time you took a course on personal responsibility and debt? When is the last time a class told you to be careful with your money and not to buy everything you want? When is the last time a class told you what money really is and why we use money? This type of thing just doesn't happen.
Leadership
Yes, schools do have leadership classes, but this isn't real leadership, this is politics. Leadership is not getting a group of people together who have no real world or practical experience in things and trying to tell people what is best. Leadership is being a creative individual who is capable of standing on their own and seeing through their vision. Leadership is going AGAINST the crowd to stand up for what is right even when everyone is against you. This is true leadership, and you're not going to learn true leadership in school.
Risk
Risk is foreign to schools. Schools do not promote taking risks and trying new things. They prefer to stick to a stringent and set way of doing things. This is great if you want to get the same results over and over, but terrible if you want to innovate and grow. And growth is why people get an education in the first place! So of course you want to take risks. Of course you want to try new things. And of course it won't always work out when you take a risk. But every once in a while it will work out and it will make it all worth it. Plus, the more risks you take, the smarter you become.
Failure
Tying into risk is failure. Most schools avoid teaching risk because they avoid teaching failure. It is frowned upon to fail in our education system. Why? What is so bad about failure? People fail all the time. Failure is a natural part of learning. Failure should hardly be looked upon as a reason to give up or throw in the towel. If you never fail you are hardly learning. Failure is something that should be encouraged alongside with risk. Nobody likes to fail, but it is part of learning.
People Skills
Our education system does not teach us people skills. It may teach us who's ass to kiss and when, but it won't teach us how to be genuine and real with people. It won't teach us how to knock off the silly corporate front and just talk to others like another human being. This is something that needs to be fixed.
