In the United States today, statistics show that only a small percentage of the population are self employed. Studies show that at least 80% of people both in this country, and in countries around the world, are working for someone else. Each day, they get up at a specific time, arrive to work at a specific time, work for about seven hours, and then they return home. Either once a week or every two weeks, they are given a paycheck. Many of these jobs are what I would categorize as being “low end.” How can you tell that you're working at a low end job? Below is a list of things which are commonly associated with low end jobs. Go through the list to see how many apply to you:
- The company never gives you weekends off.
- The company doesn't give you paid vacations.
- The pay is minimum wage or a few dollars above.
- Social security is taken out of each check before you get it.
- Income taxes are taken out of each check before you get it.
- You are rarely, if ever, given raises. Any raises given are small.
- The company doesn't have a retirement or pension plan.
- You hate the job, only do it for the money, and would much rather be doing something else.
- The job requires no specialized skills, and anyone can learn it in a few days or weeks.
- No health insurance is offered.
- Few opportunities for advancement.
If half or more of the things listed above apply to your job, then this is a sign that you're probably working at a dead end job, one that has no future, and no growth. This also means that if you want to become rich, you have to make it your goal to walk away from this line of work as soon as possible, and move into something much better. If you're like most people, you're probably thinking that the solution to the problem is to get either another job that pays more, get a higher education, or perhaps even get two jobs. However, none of these solutions will allow you to become truly rich.
