It has become increasingly popular in this day and age for people to use our school system and college as their answer to everything. It has been built up and esteemed as the end all to our financial and educational woes. It is the final step in becoming an expert in a field and a degree denotes competency in a profession for life.

But does it really? Does college really educate people appropriately, and more importantly, does college educate people with the right kind of knowledge? This is obviously a topic that has plenty of arguments on both sides, but I would like to present some things most people never think about.

There are many positive and favorable aspects to school. But at the same time, there are also many negative and neglected areas of school that are not so easily discovered. To discover these types of lessons one needs to actually step outside of our educational system and really think about their life here on this planet, and where they want to go in life. One first needs to grasp an understanding of what life is all about and what they should be doing with their life. 1,000 years ago people lived totally different lives than they do today. 1,000 years into the future people will most likely be living totally different lives than we live today. So what makes us think the way we are currently living and educating people is the correct way? Is there a correct way? Is it proper to say that people should always go through grade school for 12 years and then to college for an additional 4 - 8 years? Maybe it is for some, maybe not for others. But to think that everyone is the same and everyone should go the same way probably isn't the best way to do things.

Is it correct to spend your younger years going to school to work in a corporate environment from 9-5 for 40 years? Is it proper to expect your job to offer things such as benefits and compensation should you quit? Is it the responsibility of your employer to grant you insurance? How far should our education go and what is it really setting us up for?

Why do some people build businesses and venture out into their own line of work while others have to be guided by an employer and the school system? Why did Bill Gates drop out of school? Why do people like Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad) flunk out of high school twice and then go on to become a success?

Our current way of education is not what it appears to be. While our school systems appear to be educating people and training them for the real world they are hardly accomplishing either. Education in America continues to decline and less and less people go on to create their own companies. 100 years ago less people would go to college and more people would become apprentices and learn their training at the job. Why do we now think it is acceptable in our age to not learn on the job?

Our current way of education costs enormous amounts of money that we still have yet to see if it will ever be paid back. Many students will gladly pay upwards of $20,000/yr to attend college as if this is a good thing. Yes, college is expensive, but why? Why is college more expensive now than ever? These are questions that should be asked by people but they are not being asked. There are answers to all these questions and it is the hopes of Illi University to not only address these questions, but to solve them.
