Probably the main reason education is expensive is because people don't WANT to be educated. What do I mean by that? Think about it for a second. If people really wanted to become educated they would, and they would do it without spending a dime.

We have thousands of absolutely free public libraries in America yet so few are actually visited on a weekly basis by the average American. We have thousands of places you could work for free and learn from a professional yet so few people will actually work for free to learn real life skills. We have almost all of the world's collective information at your fingertips with the Internet, yet most people would rather be entertained with the Internet as opposed to being informed. So we first have to get this notion of education being expensive out of our heads.

If you are going to school because you want to get a degree you are most likely going for the wrong reasons. You are buying a degree, not an education. You can't buy education. You have to work for it. Education is something that must be earned with hard work and patience. You can't throw money at something and become educated. The only way to truly become educated is to actually challenge yourself every day with something new.

So all this talk of education being expensive is nonsense. Education is not expensive. Being educated by the ways of college may be expensive, but college does not necessarily equate with education. It almost seems as if the more we try to AVOID education, the more expensive it becomes. The more we try to bring somebody else in to educate us rather than taking care of ourselves the more expensive education becomes. The more we try to dress up being education with degrees, diplomas and licenses the more expensive things become. But actually sitting down, reading a book or the Internet is one of the cheapest things we can do.
